Chuseok in Busan

Chuseok is one of the biggest holidays in Korea. It's like a thanksgiving day in US or christmas in the Philippines. As I recall, last year, I just locked myself in the dormitory for that 3-day holiday. Geez. Maybe because it was just about 2 or 3 weeks after I came here. Anyway, so because of that I decided to visit my friend, Jae, in Busan. Jae was my classmate in college, he also took veterinary medicine and  we belong to the same batch. It was a long overdue meet-up with Jae so I decided right away to go to Busan to visit him. I was hesistant at first because of the expected traffic during holidays, but believe it or not it took me 1 hour earlier to be there (Gwangju to Busan usually takes 4-6 hours during holidays). They always say that Busan is more beautiful than Seoul because they have a lot of beaches and the city is not as polluted as Seoul. Well I've been to Seoul, and yes I can say that I love Busan more than Seoul. It's probably because of the delicious sashimi hahaha. More than that, I just love their beach, although its still incomparable with what we have in the Philippines :) We went to Haeundae and Songjong beach, gosh I love Songjong beach. It's a beach along the highway and you can just go there for free. The best part of that beach is the Beans Bins cafe, they have this really delicious ice cream and waffles. No wonder it's Jae's favorite place. We also went to the ASEAN Summit 2005 venue where all the leaders from different countries had the meeting. Of course I had to take former Philippine president GMA's photo there. She was cute in Hanbok, in all fairness to her. The place is beautiful because there's an overlooking sea and bridge which looks like the golden gate bridge of San Francisco.

Breakin' Dishes

I couldn't believe that we survived the food festival contest. Imagine, we were the only team with 3 members (others have at least 10 members). Girl power indeed! Hahaha. We've been very busy preparing for this event because we were going to represent the Philippines. The thing is, we need to make a good impression about the Filipino food. WelI I guess we made a good impression based on the votes! Hahaha. We didn't win but it was worth it because we made a lot friends, we heard good feedback, and we did something totally different from what we always do, o yeah plus we earned a lot of money ^^.

We call ourselves, "The Maria Claras", bonggacious diba? :)

Our supportive friends who made time just to visit us (plus I forced them too ^^).

Annus mirabilis

Annus mirabilis is a Latin phrase meaning "wonderful year".  Indeed, my first year in Korea is nothing but wonderful memories. One blog entry is not enough to tell every detail of those beautiful times I had in Korea. But anyway, I just want to say that a year has passed and one year more and I'll be getting my master's degree. Thinking about this brings me to those times when I wasn't sure about coming to Korea to study. After college, I worked right away as a small animal practitioner in Davao. It was fulfilling in such a way that I was able to treat animals and tell myself, wow I'm a doctor. But things have changed when I started to think what do I really want in my life. I believe this is what they call "mid-life crisis". But I guess when you cry out yourself to God and ask Him what does He want for you, you will know what exactly your heart desires. So here I am now, aspiring to become a scientist. Well, you can never wrong in studying more so if you want it, just go for it. ^^
Photos taken last September 2011, my first month in Korea. I'm so nene, gosh.
